The club hosted a series of Masterclass sessions for junior players, featuring top-level international stars Lily Walker, Callum Mackenzie, and Barney Bithell. The sessions were overseen by Liam J Hennessy and provided a unique opportunity for young players to learn from some of the best in the game, receiving expert coaching and invaluable insights into high-performance hockey.
The Masterclasses covered a range of skills, focusing on individual technique, ball carrying, goals scoring, team play, and game strategy. The international players shared their knowledge and experience, offering invaluable advice and encouragement to the aspiring young athletes.
Gwynne Goodfield, Club Chairman: "On behalf of the club, I want to say a big thank you to the coaches, Lily, Callum and Barney for taking time out of their busy schedules. Thanks to Sunny Sahota and Liam Hennessy for all their hard work in organising these fantastic Masterclasses. They've put a lot of effort into giving young players amazing opportunities, and we really appreciate it. These sessions have not only provided valuable coaching but also instilled a sense of excitement and enthusiasm within our club. We're lucky to have such passionate and dedicated people leading our junior program."
Callum Mackezie, Scotland & Wimbledon HC: "Good to be back in the old stomping ground and working with so many talented kids. I have very fond memories of my time at the club being coached by Liam, Suchy and DT, it's great to see that hard work being continued and hearing plans to provide the best coaching in the area week in week out. Already looking forward to more Masterclasses in 2025."
Sunny Sahota, Head of Juniors: "A lot to thank and rightfully so. Thank you to all the players, parents and guardians who attended and supported the day. It's a fiddly time of year with everyone being so busy so thank you for coming along. How great was it to see the kids having photos and getting sticks, shirts and stick bags signed by the coaches, that's what it's all about!! Lily, Barney and the "King of the Spin" Callum were all brilliant, a massive thanks to them of course. Thanks also goes to Nighters, Cassie and Sungeeta for their help with the webshop and running the cafe. Hopefully see you again in 2025."
The club hopes to host similar events in the future, offering young players the chance to learn from top-level athletes and continue to develop their skills within a supportive and inspiring environment.
