About the club
A few facts about Telford & Wrekin Hockey club :-
- We have a membership base of 225 with 55 Adult members, 150 juniors and 20 social members, making us the largest Amateur sports club in Telford.
- The club was founded in 1895 and is one of the oldest hockey clubs in the Midlands.
- We have 6 Men’s, 2 Ladies, 3 Badgers (U15) teams which play every Saturday from September to Easter and compete in competitions around the country.
- In addition to those teams we regularly enter regional tournaments with U9, U11 and U13yr seven a side teams.
- The Men’s 1XI compete in the Midlands Premier division. Our U15 Shropshire Badgers side won the county league in 2008.
- Our junior training takes place on Sunday mornings, which caters for beginners from 5yrs to 15yrs, with further training sessions on Tuesday, and Thursday evenings for more able players.
- We use the facilities at St George’s Sports & Social Club and a state of the art water based pitch at the National Sports Centre at Lilleshall identical to the hockey pitch used at the Bejing Olympics, for playing matches against clubs from across the Midlands.
- We have an active social calendar with quiz night, race night, music night and fun day as well as an annual dinner.
- We currently have players representing England, Scotland and Wales both in youth and masters sides.
- Our hockey club prides itself on creating a family atmosphere and our Young Players Committee recently won the Telford & Wrekin Sports Clubs Young Leader of the Year award.
- One of our core principles is that every member can, if they wish play hockey at a competitive level in our club from child through to adult. We currently have a 60yr old and a 65yr old players playing alongside 14yr old players in our 5th team.
