Former Telford & Wrekin junior David Goodfield scored for Great Britain on Saturday, helping GB to a 3-0 in over current world champions Germany. Nick Bandurak opened the scoring for the home side, after Zach Wallace won the penalty stroke, with Bandurak stepping up off the bench to convert into the top corner.
Goodfield scored GB’s next goal from a penalty corner. The first shot was saved by their German defence with the ball coming to the edge of the circle. Goodfield picked the ball up, took it onto his reverse, and fired the ball into the bottom corner to make it 2-0 Great Britain. Germany subbed their goalkeeper off late into the game to try and find a way back in. Wallace won a short for GB, after being pinned into the corner by multiple German defenders, with Sam Ward putting his drag flick low into the goal.
Goodfield, the son of chairman Gwynne, came through the clubs junior ranks from an age of 10, being an integral part of the Under18’s boys team that reached the England Hockey National Finals in 2011. After being a part of the Men’s First XI for several seasons, Goodfield moved away at 18 for Sheffield Hallam University, and is now First Team Captain of National Premier League side Surbition.
