Match Report

After winning all of their pre-season friendly matches, Telford and Wrekin Ladies were aiming to maintain their unbeaten run as they travelled to newly-promoted Bloxwich for their first league game of the season.  The Telford side made a strong start and dominated the first quarter of the match, but despite a number of chances they were unable to find the back of the Bloxwich goal.  In the second half Bloxwich took the lead against the run of play. Telford and Wrekin were spurred in to action and Jodie Lane equalised immediately at the other end with a reverse stick sweep past the Bloxwich keeper.  Telford then converted a short corner after a shot from Shirley Hasenauer was stopped by the goalkeeper, only for Chez Lane to put away the rebound.  A third goal was added when Gee Molyneux played a ball from the baseline to Lorna Burns, who turned, beat the keeper and scored.  Burns completed the scoring after she received a cross from Chez Lane and slotted the ball past the Bloxwich defence.  Telford and Wrekin conceded a late goal, but with a final score of 4-2 to the Telford side, captain Shirley Hasenauer was pleased with the performance and the result. ‘It is a great start to the season, and great to have three points in the bag’ she said.  It was interesting to note that the Telford side had three mother/daughter pairings in the team: Chez Lane and daughter Jodie; Shirley Hasenauer with daughter Julia in goal; and Sandra Pattinson and her daughter Lorna Mackenzie.  This weekend sees the team take on local rivals Shrewsbury 2 at home (11.00 at St Georges).
