Match Report

On a gloriously sunny day Telford 4ths played away against North Staffs. Development team for their last game of the season. From the start Telford dominated possession giving little to the opposition. Any time NSD had the ball it was quickly recovered. For fifteen minutes the game remained at a stalemate until a quick turnaround saw Luke Oldham feed the ball to Josh Sykes who powerfully dispensed the ball into the bottom corner. This opened the floodgates for Telford. Roger Marsh scored five assisted by James Stevens, Luke Oldham twice and dispatching two short corners for the away team. James Stevens also scored a sharp low finish from another Luke Oldham assist. The fluid passing and movement from Telford gave them a seven nil advantage going into half time.

The second half saw a change of formation for NSD where they would play a predominantly defensive line-up. Telford used the left and right flanks to probe the defence. On the right Josh Sykes, Josh Carr-Yetzes and Luke Oldham. On the left Paul Cousins, Archie Jones and James Stevens. These attacks were wearing down a more organised NSD and leaving gaps in the centre of the midfield for the ball to reach the attacking Abraham Bello. Any stops in forward momentum would see the ball sent around the back and to the opposite side.

Telford's dominance saw the centre back pairing of Dave Stephenson and Tom Hurst attack and pin NSD to one half of the field. All the pressure was starting to tell and twenty-five minutes into the second half Telford scored again. Josh Carr-Yetzes' shot deflected in by the awaiting Roger. Josh Sykes rasping effort being deflected in by Roger about five minutes later. Telford continued to attack up until the final whistle where they accepted a nine-nil victory. Telford had enjoyed a well organised victory - apart from Bradley Williams. The Telford keeper had tried to secure a white shirt and sneak into the outfield at half time but the ever-professional captain had refused him.

James Stevens had worked tirelessly throughout the game and been a constant threat to NSD. Hitting the post and having opportunities saved, linking up with his team, Scoring, assisting and defending well.
