Match Report

The fourth team welcomed the league leaders to St. Georges on a windy Saturday afternoon, with an outfield debut for Seth Higginson. The away fixture saw Oswestry win 9-0 and having scored 160 goals over their other 17 fixtures this season, this was always going to be a difficult game.

Oswestry started the brighter of the two teams putting early pressure on the home defence. They did however struggle to find any clean gaps through a well organised Telford backline. John Higginson had the unenviable task of marking the away teams star player whose international background was understandable given his speed, skill and shooting prowess but John did remarkably well and subdued the league's top scorer.

Telford came into the game with a mixture of sharp bursts upfield countered by a more measured build up when necessary. The deadlock was unfortunately broken by the visitors shortly before the twenty minute mark. A quick break upfield and the Oswestry star player managed to find enough space in the Telford D to fire into the bottom corner. The rest of the first half was more evenly matched with both teams unable to find any clear shooting opportunity.

The second half was a high energy affair. Bradley Williams made a string of great saves from both short corners and open play which made the guests increasingly frustrated. Telford pressed on the experienced 1st team with or without the ball and carved out a couple of chances but after Ian Cole sportingly suggested his foul goal be ruled out, the scoreline remained the same. A 1-0 loss was a truly remarkable result with huge amounts of effort all over. Josh Yetzes was man of the match with a versatile, skilful performance, playing in several positions throughout the game.
